Day 5 Freebie at SDD

Come over to Scrappity Doo Dah to receive day 5 freebie.

Girl Scouts - Flag and Kaper Chart

Since our troop is a new troop and we don't have existing funds to purchase a troop flag that cost $25 I decided to take out my sewing machine and again use my quilting skills to make our troop flag. I used my sizzex to cut out the numbers. The numbers and the green girl scout emblem I embroidered by hand. Who would have known those quilting skills I learned over 12 years ago would come in handy again so soon.

I have researched Kaper charts and was going to do a daisy type craft with close pins but I think this idea would work out better. I searched on line for a daisy image and I found this one here. I then edited it and changed the words to add the girls names in our troop. I punched it out with my hand circle punch. I then laminated it. Again took out my hot glue gun and glued it to close pins. I made additional blank ones for when we get assigned more girls.

Here is my daughters up close to show you what it looks like.

I found this idea on line here. We will do "Do it, Done It" We will have 2 bowls they are zip lock snack bowls, "Do It" and "Done It". Each girl had a clothespin that I made above with their name on it. All pins start out in the "Do It" bowl. My co-leader or I will draw a pin out for the first that we need done. The person who is drawn, draws for the next job. Her pin goes into the "Done It" bowl, etc. When all pins have been selected, they get dumped back in the "Do It" bowl and we start over! Doing it this way minimized the disappointment when having set jobs that you didn't always need at each meeting - more flexibility!

This is what it will look like at the meeting. The pins inside the bowl are extras made for girls that haven't been assigned yet.

The best part about this is there is a lid for the bowl and all the pins fit inside so it will be easy to transport to each meeting plus the empty bowl will stack underneath.

Girl Scouts - Swap Banner

The other day I made those daisy pins for a Girl Scout swap. Well, Friday night my girls swapped all their pins and got lots of pins in exchange. What to do with all the swap pins. I came up with this idea to make a pin banner. Actually I have one already in my craft room that is filled with pins that I have collected in the past 10 years or more. So I made these banners for my girls to display all their pins.

The first one is Naomi's. She wanted ribbon on the entire outside of border of hers. She picked out matching fabric for me to applique an N on the top. The one she is holding started to bulge out when I hung it one the wall so a bit of more sewing was involved to make it lay straight on the wall.

After sewing some of the ribbon more on the back just leaving a little pit of a look to hang it up it did lie flat against the wall. Here is her finished banner along with the pins that she received from the swap.

Now my other daughter Victoria I decided since her fabric that she choose was lighter than Naomi's for her initial I'd try to hand applique it on. Okay, it looks nice but I will never attempt that again. The felt was too hard to push through so I had to use a thimble which took me way longer to complete than Naomi's where I used the sewing machine.

Victoria only wanted ribbon on the top and bottom of hers. Here's her finished banner.

I am a GIrl Scout Leader Poem

Where have I been? Training to be a daisy girl scout leader. I've been searching on line for various things to include in our meetings. I was a girl scout when I was little, but at that time there was no daisy. I was a brownie and girl scout. I remember the crafts and swaps very well.

Being a Girl Scout Leader is one of the most rewarding opportunities you can take on. It can't be measured in points scored or points on a test, but it does make a difference in a girl's life!

Today I made some pins for the girls to swap with other troops when we go Christmas caroling tomorrow. These are the pins that I made. Aren't they pretty. I hope the girls like them.

I made 35 of them. Look how pretty.

Now, this poem I just found fits perfect for my life as my fingers are all swollen from the hot glue gun which I haven't used in years to make those pins.

Poem Written by Barb Hunter.

I am a Girl Scout leader, I own a hot glue gun,
A 3-ring notebook, an American flag, and a seven-passenger van.
I know all about Safety-Wise, permission slips, and registration forms.
I save bits of string, scraps of fabric, old tin cans,
And a whole garage full of recyclables.
I am a Girl Scout leader.
